Cultism in Nigeria: The hidden secret

Over the years, many have lost their lives, loved
ones, body parts and properties in the red
wicked hands of cultists and their notorious and
deadly activities in Nigeria.

The innocent CUB that metamorphosed into a
deadly LION. many have asked this thought
provoking question: how did it all start?

it was with good intention that the seven young
men formed the pirates confraternity in 1952 at
the university college Ibadan. these seven
young men formed the PIRATES
CONFRATERNITY in 1952 at the university
college Ibadan. these seven young men were
known as the ORIGINAL SEVEN. They include
the prestigious WOLE SOYEINKA, RALPH
OKPARA, PIUS OKEBE, FRANK
AIGIMOUKHUEDE, NATHANIEL OYELOLA,
OLUMUYIWA AWE and BEN EGBUCHALAM.
the pirates confraternity was later transformed
into National association of seadogs (NAS),
which was registered, with the Federal ministry
of Internal Affairs in 1980. it is still regarded in
many quarters as the fountainhead of campus
cults in Nigeria tertiary institutions. when they
started, they didn’t have the kind of organization
that now pervades the universities. they started
as a confraternity. it was a just a meeting of like
minds of those who thought the same way.
Wole Soyinka was the captain because he was
the one who initiated the move. the pirates had
the following as some of its objectives;
1. bringing to focus societal ills (injustices, anti-
people government policies, maladministration
etc)
2. doing humanitarian duties such as donating
blood to hospitals and materials to needy.
3. establishing relationships with their members
for future benefit.
